Market@May 29: Day's report

The market opened strong with pivotals opening firm. Reliance, HLL, SBI and other cyclicals helped the Sensex rise. Among the pivotals, Reliance was the star performer with a 6 per cent gain. Meanwhile, software came under strong selling pressure during the first half but showed a sharp recovery during the second half. Himachal Futuristic, Global Tele and Zee led the uptrend in software stocks. FMCG and MNC pharma stocks also remained in good demand.

Sensex up 105 points at 4190, Nifty gains 31 points at 1306.

Trading volume remained comparatively high on both the exchanges. Satyam, Reliance, Zee Tele, Himachal and Global Tele topped the volume charts accounting for 56 per cent of the total traded volume on the BSE.

Zee, SSI, Rel Capital, NIIT, HDFC, Nestle, Apollo Tyres, Britannia, Ashok Leyland, Bata, VSNL, Voltas, Bharat Electronics, Trent, Novartis, Amara Raja Batteries, Bharat Forge, Fortune Info, Veronica Lab, Salora Int, Websity Info.

Gainers: Between 5 per cent and 7.9 per cent
Reliance, Himachal, IPCL, Bhel, ICICI, Indo Gulf, Tata Elxsi, BPL, Corp Bank, McDowell, Cadbury, Dabur, Crompton Greaves, Bilt, Parke Davis, Henkel Spic, Rhone Poulenc.

Losers: Between 12 per cent and 7.9 per cent
Polaris, Shyam Tele, Tata Telecom, Mastek, KLG Systel, Octagon Techno, Yash Management, Atcom.

Losers: Between 7.9 per cent and 5 per cent
Hughes Soft, RS Soft, Kaashyap Rad, Sibar Soft, Max India, Zenith Info, Melstar Info, Shri MM Soft, Lyka Labs.
