 SAIL net loss at Rs 17.20 billion, turnover up by 8%
 Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has reported a net loss of Rs 17.20 billion for the year ending March 31, 2000 (FY 99 Rs 15.74 billion). The sales for the year are 8.14% up at Rs 167.23 billion as against Rs 154.64 billion in FY 99. The other income is higher at Rs 5.07 billion (FY 99 Rs 1.82 billion). The gross loss has increased from Rs 5.14 billion in FY 99 to Rs 5.88 billion in the current year.
During the year the Government of India has approved financial and business restructuring proposal of SAIL. Accordingly the company received various waivers effective from April 1, 1999. This has resulted in the losses for the year being lower by Rs 7.57 billion. This seems to be reflected in the interest charges for the year being lower at Rs 17.89 billion as against Rs 20.17 billion in FY 99. An additional Rs 5.86 billion was absorbed during the year towards provisions and expenditure including VRS resulting in separation of 13500 employees during the year.

 Motherson Sumi FY 2000 net up 84.14% at Rs 159.83 million
 Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd has reported a net profit of 159.83 million for the year ended March 31, 2000 as against Rs 86.80 million for FY 99.The sales have increased from Rs 1366.36 million in FY 99 to Rs 1777.84 million in FY 2000. Other income for FY 2000 is up by 143.76% at Rs 88.12 million.

 Phoenix Lamps FY 2000 net profit at Rs 91.04 million
 Phoenix Lamps (India) Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 91.04 million for the year ended March 31, 2000 as compared to Rs 66.84 million for FY 99.The sales for FY 2000 are higher by 10.10% at Rs 1028.44 million. Other income is Rs 1.30 million (FY 99 Rs 2.02 million).
Due to the change in the accounting policy regarding provision of exchange fluctuation on foreign currency loan from cash basis to accrual basis, depreciation during the year is higher by Rs 26.30 million (including Rs 15.03 million for previous years) and consequently the profit for the current year is lower by Rs 26.30 million.

 LA Opala RG net profit improves 51%, sale up 24%
 LA Opala RG Ltd has registered a 51% growth in the net profits for the year ended March 31, 2000. The company recorded a net profit of Rs 39.94 million on a turnover of Rs 380.61million as against Rs 26.42 million and Rs 307.25 million respectively recorded in FY 99. While the other income was 295% higher at Rs 3.13 million (FY 99 Rs 0.79 million) the profit before tax is 59.45% higher at Rs 59.84 million (FY 99 Rs 37.553 million). The Board has recommended a dividend at the rate of 5% over and above the 20% interim dividend declared on March 25, 2000.

 BSE imposes AVM on 159 scrips
 BSE has imposed Additional Volatility Margin (AVM) on the following Scrips for settlement No. 10/2000-2001 commencing on 29 May 2000.AVM would be computed on the net outstanding Purchase or Sales positions as may be applicable including carryforward positions at the end of day at the rates given below. The rates of AVM would be remain unchanged for the entire settlement.

 Century Textiles to sell Manikgarh Cement unit and power plant
 The Board of Directors of Century Textiles and Industries Ltd has decided to sell its Manikgarh Cement Unit including the power plant thereat at the best available prices as may be decided by the Board and/or any committee authorised therefore. The Board took the above decision in consultation with ICICI Securities in view of the ongoing restructuring exercise at the company. The Board's decision is however subject to the necessary approvals including that of shareholders at the ensuing AGM. The Board has constituted a committee of Directors to finalise the transaction in consultation with ICICI Securities in the best interest of the company.

 BSE to resume trading in 3 scrips
 BSE had suspended trading in the undermentioned companies because of non-compliance of listing requirements regarding intimation of dates of closure of Register of Members/Record Dates. The dealings in the securities can now be resumed w.e.f May 29, 2000.

 Natraj Commercial to issue shares on preferential basis
 The Board of Directors of the Natraj Commercial Enterprises Ltd.has decided to issue equity shares and warrants convertible into equity shares on preferential basis amounting to Rs 57.22 million.

 Century Textile FY 2000 Net Profit at Rs 345.20 million
 Century Textiles & Industries Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 345.20 million for the year ended March 31, 2000 as compared to a net loss of Rs 930 million for FY 99. The sales for FY 2000 are up by 8.88% at Rs 21096.80 million. Total Exports of the Company during FY 2000 amounted to Rs 4207.20 million Other income is Rs 930.50 million (FY 99 Rs 716.30 million).
Other Income includes profit on sale of ships amounting to Rs 178.40 million and share of profit in Birla Tyres Rs 66.40 million for FY 2000 (Previous year Rs 86.80 million on profit on sale of ships and Rs 200.40 million in share of profit in Birla Tyres)
The Board of Directors has recommended, dividend of 6% (six percent) on Paid up Equity Share Capital for the year ended 31.3.2000, same as paid in the previous year.
The profits for the year are higher by Rs 81.60 million due to the change in the basis of valuation of certain categories of inventory to bring the same in line with the AS - 2 issued by ICAI.
Permission of the Central Government has been obtained regarding non-provision of depreciation for the year pertaining to its three Divisions viz. Century Denim, Century Pulp and Paper and Maihar Cement Unit II amounting to Rs 679.9 million. The net profit is reflected accordingly.
In respect of Shipping Division, depreciation has now been provided as per the new economic life of various types of ships categorised for the purchase of second hand ships by Ministry of Surface Transport (Shipping Wing), Government of India. Effect of this change in new economic life on depreciation has resulted in the profit for the year being higher by Rs 26.40 million.

 Tata Metaliks FY 2000 net profit at Rs 30.10 million
 Tata Metaliks Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 30.10 million for the year ended March 31, 2000 as compared to Rs 1.40 million for FY 99.The total income for FY 2000 is up by 8.62% at Rs 937.60 million. The operating profit has improved from Rs 77.40 million in FY 99 to Rs 102.90 million for FY 2000.

 Dalmia Cement MQ 2000 Net Profit at Rs 12.60 million
 Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 12.60 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2000 as compared to Rs 7.40 million for MQ 2000. The sales For MQ 2000 are up by 23.59% at Rs 944.50 million. Other income is Rs 35.80 million (MQ 99 Rs 81.80 million).
The profits for the year ended March 31, 2000 are up by 5.07% at Rs 211.40 million. The sales for FY 2000 have increased from Rs 3207.30 million in FY 99 to Rs 3712.90 million in FY 2000.Other income is Rs 143.50 million (FY 99 Rs 196.20 million).

 Ceat Financial reports 467.50 million loss for half year 1999-2000
 Ceat Financial Services Ltd, a RPG group company has incurred a net loss of Rs 467.50 million for the half year ending on March 31,2000 as compared to a profit of Rs 45.20 million earned in the same period of the previous financial year. The net sales and income from operations are Rs 442 million, a decline of 44.23% against Rs 792.50 million in half year ended March 31, 1999. The other income is Rs 1.20 million as compared to Rs 0.60 million in half year March 31, 1999. The interest charges for the period is significantly higher at Rs 476.10 million (Rs 383.50 million). The provision for NPAs and diminution in the value of investments is also higher at Rs 205 million as compared to Rs 76 million in the coresponding period of the last year.

 Hi-Tech Plast Containers FY 2000 net profit at Rs 1.20 million
 Hi-Tech Plast Containers (India) Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 1.20 million for the year ended March 31,2000 as compared to a net loss of Rs 9.63 million for FY 99. The sales for FY 2000 are up by 53.81% at Rs 174.60 million. Other income is Rs 2.83 million (FY 99 Rs 3.99 million).

 Samtel Color Net profit at Rs 373.10 million, income rises 21%
 Samtel Color Ltd has announced a net profit of Rs 373.10 million for the year ended March 31, 2000 as against Rs 44.30 million in FY 99. The sales and income from operations is 21.18% higher at Rs 5760.20 million compared to Rs 4753.50 million in FY 99.During the year erstwhile Samtel Electron Devices Ltd was merged with Samtel Color Ltd. The results for the current year are audited results of the merged entity and of the previous year are unaudited results for the merged entity. The Board had declared an interim dividend of Rs 2.50 per share at their meeting held on April 4, 2000. The Board has not recommended any further dividend. The company's shares will be traded in compulsory Demat form w.e.f June 26, 2000.

 CG Glass MQ 2000 net profit at Rs 7.43 million, turnover up 17%
 CG Glass Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 7.43 million on a turnover of Rs 122.45 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2000. The company had incurred a loss of Rs 21.09 million on a turnover of Rs 104.57 million for the same quarter in the last financial year. The other income for the quarter is Rs 9.69 million as against Rs 4.64 million in MQ 99.
The net profits for the year ended March 31, 2000 is Rs 0.95 million as compared to a Rs loss of Rs 75.04 million incurred in FY 99. The sales for the year are 4.76% lower at Rs 439.63 million as against Rs 461.59 million worth sales recorded in FY 99.
During the year CG Glass has issued ten million 15.5% cumulative non convertible redeemable preference shares of Rs 10/- each totaling to Rs 100 million.

 Gujarat Cycles net profit at Rs 28.19 million, turnover up 52%
 Gujarat Cycles Ltd has recorded a net profit of Rs 28.19 million for the financial year 1999-2000. The company had incurred a loss of Rs 57.20 million for the same period in the previous financial year. The sales for the year are Rs 399.82 million as against Rs 262.74 million for FY 99. The interest charges are lower at Rs 12.99 million (FY 99 Rs 17.78 million). The company has reported an earning of Rs 2.11 per share for the year. The depreciation for the year at Rs 15.40 million is 32% higher than Rs 11.67 million charged last year. The company had accumulated losses of Rs 412.84 million as on March 31, 2000.
