Market@July 25: Day's report

After an extremely weak opening, prices recovered strongly in the second half. The rally was extremely sharp in counters like Wipro, Satyam, SSI, Rolta and Sterlite. All these counters gained more than 8 per cent.

Non-software stocks like L&T, ACC, ITC, SBI, Tisco and Grasim also showed smart gains from their intra-day lows.

Sensex up 148 points at 4336. Nifty up 39 points at 1356.

The trading volume on both exchanges was significantly high. Sterlite, Infosys, and Pentamedia touched their all-time high volumes. While Sterlite recorded a volume of 2.9 million shares, Infosys and Pentamedia clocked volume of 0.88 million shares and 3.85 million shares respectively. Himachal also witnessed a trading volume of 6.8 million shares.
