Markets@16 Feb: Day's report

Sensex down 77 points at 5725 points, Nifty closes at 1705.40, up 3 points. Wipro, Rolta and Hughes Software at upper circuit.

Both software shares as well as pivotals showed a weak trend. All the index-based counters posted a marginal loss. Sensex which opened at 5782 points and touched a peak of 5864.97 points. However, as a result of a weak trend during the second half of the day, it closed lower at 5725.66. The low for the day was 5711.75. At the same time Nifty gained 3 pts on the first day of the settlement.

Stocks up over 5 per cent
HCL Infosystems, Rolta, Reliance Capital, BPL, HDFC Bank, Alok Textiles, Parekh Platinum, McDowell, Hughes Software, Atcom, United Phosphorus, Jain Studios, Polaris, Philips, IEC Software, Leading Edge, Indian Rayon, BFL Software, Punjab Tractors, Times Bank and Apollo Hospitals.

Stocks down over 4 per cent
BSES, ICICI, Videocon International, HCL Technologies, M&M, Gujarat Ambuja Cement, Orchid Chem, Ashok Leyland, Sonata Software, TVS Suzuki, Nicholas Piramal, Asian Paints, Thomas Cook, BITS, Soni Corp and Lippi System.
