Markets@14 Feb: Day's report

The market opened firm at 6130.23 points with Infosys, SBI, ITC, MTNL and NIIT opening strong and touched a high 6150.69 points. However MTNL and ITC almost immediately started showing weakness, thus pushing the Sensex down. In the latter half other index-based counters like Larsen, BHEL, HPCL, TELCO and TISCO also gave way, resulting in the Sensex dropping to 5924.31 points. However SBI hit the upper circuit during the last half hour which helped the Sensex to gain ground.

  • Advances at 901
  • Declines at 1296
  • Unchanged at 199
  • Turnover at Rs 4998 crore
  • Nifty lost 12 points at 1745 points

Stocks gaining over 5 per cent
SBI, Satyam Computer, Wipro, BPCL, DSQ Software, BFL Software, BSEL Information, Max India, Leading Edge, Mirc Electronics, Videocon Appliances, Maars Software, United Western Bank, Ram Informatics, Vans Information. Pantaloon, Whirlpool, Sonata Software, Videocon International, IDBI, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, Thomas Cook, Salora International, Zandu Pharma and Visual Soft.

Stocks losing over 4 per cent
MTNL, Larsen and Toubro. HCL Infosystems, Sterlite, ICICI, Tata Elxsi, HPCL, TELCO, SSI, Aptech, Raymond, VSNL, Apollo Tyres, Punjab Tractors, Voltas, Ballarpur, Ashok Leyland, UTI Bank, India Cement, GNFC, Nestle, VLS Finance, Alok Textiles, Glaxo, Cadbury and Vikas WSP.
