Market@August 25: Day's report

As a result of panic selling in the last one hour of trading a large number of stocks from the software sector lost a major part of their gains.

The fall was triggered by DSQ Soft, Himachal and Global Tele. All these three counters lost substantially.

Meanwhile, SSI, Rolta and Pentamedia were major gainers. SSI and Pentamedia recorded their all time high volumes.

In the non-software segment, stocks from the pharma sector attracted huge buying and stocks like Ranbaxy, Dr Reddy, and Cipla gained smartly. Cement stocks also witnessed buying interest.

Sensex down 42 points at 4417 points, Nifty down 8 points at 1378 points.

Gainers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
SSI, ACC, VSNL, SmithKline Pharma, Himalaya Int, EIH, Max India, Hotel Leela, Tata Telecom, CMS, Shetron, SQL Star.

Losers: Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
