Market@August 23: Day's report

The day began well as values remained firm in the first half of the day. But in the afternoon, software stocks came under strong selling pressure with most of them closing lower than Tuesday. DSQ Software was the first to hit the lower circuit, and lost more than 8 per cent at the close. Silverline also dipped more than 5 per cent. Other stocks like Infosys, Global Tele, Himachal and Pentamedia also dipped sharply.

Sensex down 13 points at 4448. Nifty up 3 points at 1384.

Meanwhile, pivotals remained firm for a major part of the day and stocks like HLL, Reliance, ITC, MTNL, L&T, and ACC gained marginally. Trading volumes on both exchanges was quite high.
