Market@August 3: Day's report

After showing a weak opening, values remained dull in the first half of the day. The selling pressure however increased during the second half and a large number of software stocks showed a negative close.

Sterlite remained the major loser of the day. It lost 15 per cent and attracted a volume of 2.7 million shares.

DSQ Software, SSI, Pentamedia, Infosys, Rolta and Global Tele also fell substantially. Reliance, Bhel, Tisco, Telco and HLL also remained weak.Meanwhile, cement stocks showed a decline. Pharma stocks showed handsome gains.
