Intra-day gains fail to firm up; Nifty steady at 1479

Pivotals lost their intra-day gains towards the fag end of trading at the National Stock Exchange but closed marginally higher from the previous levels on selective buying support from local operators and institutional investors today.

Mirroring the firm trend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 1480.80 points, touched a day's high of 1504.55 points, a low of 1479.10 points, before closing at 1479.25 points, showing a marginal gain of 0.75 points from the previous close of 1479.25 points.

The S&P CNX Nifty Junior shot up by 39.95 points to 2979.55 points as against the previous close of 2939.60 points. The S&P CNX Defty ended higher by 5.45 points to 1185.70 points as against the previous close of 1180.25 points.

The CNX-500 and CNX-Midcap 200 gained by 1.08 and 7.43 points to 1080.80 and 1002.30 points from the previous close of 1179.72 and 994.87 points respectively.

Dealers said that today being the penultimate day of the current weekly settlement, most of the players were busy in squaring up their positions which basically resulted in a weak trend towards the fag end of trading.
