Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today expressed deep grief over the death of Darbari Seth, chairman emeritus of several Tata group companies.

In a message, he recalled Seth's immense contribution to India's corporate sector for half a century. ''Brilliant and innovative, Seth turned around many a company, proving that Indian corporate leadership can compete with the best in the world. He also displayed exemplary adherence to the highest business ethics,'' the prime minister said.

He offered his condolences to Seth's family and friends.

Confederation of Indian Industry president Rahul Bajaj expressed deep sorrow on the passing away of Seth.

Seth was one of the visionary business leaders in the Indian industry who contributed enormously to the building of modern industrial India,'' Bajaj said here.

In the Tata group, Bajaj said, Seth established for himself a reputation for courage, dynamism and far-sightedness.

Seth passed away in London on Wednesday.
