PM's Economic Advisory Council to meet today in Delhi

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has convened the first meeting of the recently constituted Economic Advisory Council on Thursday to discuss short-term challenges faced by the country.

The council is also expected to discuss necessary measures to revive the economic slow-down.

The members of the council include I G Patel, Prof P N Haksar, Ashok Desai, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Dalip Parikh, Dr Arjun Sengupta, G V Ramakrishna and Dr Amrish Bagchi.

Besides members, Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, the Reserve Bank of India governor Bimal Jalan and senior officials of finance minister are expected to participate in the meeting as special invitees, an official spokesman said today.
