Squaring keeps market quiet; RIL steady; Sensex down 23 points, 2941.39

BSE Sensitive Index

Equities declined further marginally in a lacklusture trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange on the last day of the weekly settlement today.

In the absence of any major market moving factor, dealers were seen only squaring up their positions due to end of settlement, leading BSE brokers said.

The Reliance scrip held steady today despite the CBI raids on the company's premises in Bombay and Delhi yesterday. The foreign institutional investors and domestic institutional investors preferred to stay away from active participation.

Some activity was witnessed at the select counters like ITC, Reliance, Telco and Tisco, dealers said.

Reflecting the trend, the BSE Sensex opened at 2966.14 points, touched the day's high of 2974.70 points, fell to the day's low of 2932.85 before closing at 2941.39 points, showing a net loss of 23.48 points from the previous close of 2964.87 points.
