A comprehensive policy has been formulated to provide further impetus to the establishment of industries in Jammu and Kashmir.

This was announced on Tuesday at a high level meeting under the chairmanship of Industries and Commerce Minister Bodh Raj Bali in Srinagar.

Referring to the new industrial policy introduced by the government, Bali said that encouraging results were being seen and big industrialists from outside the state were approaching the government for setting up industrial units in the state.

Seminars, conferences and debates will be conducted frequently by inviting experts and entrepreneurs, he said. This would help provide information about the facilities being extended by the government for the establishment of new as well as revival of sick units in the state, he added.

Bali asked the the industries and commerce department to create an awareness among the educated un-employed youth about various self-employment schemes launched by the government, especially under the industrial section.

Officers should take joint responsibility for providing complete infrastructure for registered units and should assist the entrepreneurs till their units started functioning, he felt.

Bali underlined the need to further streamline the registration of industrial units by implementing the single window system introduced by the government for the convenience of new entrepreneurs.

Officers should conduct frequent meetings for providing transport and other subsidies to entrepreneurs, he stressed.

About 440 new industrial units have been set up in the state this year, taking the total strength to 39,538, Bali said.

Officials expressed concern that financial institutions were not cooperating with the department. As a result, various cases were not being disposed of by them.
