No proof of involvement of PV's son in urea scam, CBI tells court

The Central Bureau of Investigation counsel today contented that there was no proof available to show the involvement of P V Prabhakar Rao, son of former prime minister PV Narasimha Rao, in the Rs 1.33-billion urea scam.

Continuing his argument for the third day today before the special court of V B Gupta, CBI counsel V N Ozha said Prabhakar Rao's role was only to get the property in Hyderabad to have vacated from the encroachers.

Quoting various sources, the counsel said, there was enough evidence that Prabhakar Rao visited the office of National Fertilizers Limited several times along with his relative Sanjeeva Rao to meet Ramakrishnan, the managing director of NFL and was extended very special treatment.

Quoting a witness, Sahib Singh, the CBI counsel, said that on receiving the money from NFL, the Karsan officials sent the share of Indian partners of the contract to Dubai, to four hawala dealers - Vasudev Paryani, Dharmesh Yadav, Rajesh Babani and B S Lagoo -. from where it was transferred to Hyderabad.

The CBI counsel produced documentary evidence to support his arguments in the special court. The next date for the case has been fixed for July 27.
