Minister vows to root out corruption in Prasar Bharati

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has lambasted corruption at high levels in the Prasar Bharti Board and vowed to end it in the greater interest of the country.

Participating in a number of functions besides meeting with editors and reporters during his visit to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, the minister said it was very sad that some top executives of the Prasar Bharti were utilising the autonomy of the broadcasting corporation as a means of ''freedom of corruption'' and declared that the government will not not tolerate it as the issue related to the wider interest of the people.

Declaring that the Prasar Bharti was a voice of the country and its accountability was a must, Naqvi regretted that some officers of the board were using autonomy as a political weapon to further their own interest and do whatever they wanted to do.

The minister said the government would do its best to remove the uncertainty over the affairs of the board.
