MOVIES King Khan Shah Rukh Khan began the year with a surgery on his back. The injury forced him to cut down his hectic pace after more than a decade in showbiz. He had only two releases this year, but both of which were among the biggest hits of the year. The first was Chalte Chalte, co-starring Rani Mukerji and produced by Dreamz Unlimited, which is owned and run by Khan and Juhi Chawla. The success of Chalte Chalte marked a triumph for Dreamz and Khan after the failure of their first two ventures, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Asoka. Towards the end of the year came Kal Ho Naa Ho, a runaway success, both in India and abroad, and is still going strong at the box office well into the New Year. Khan may have slowed down, but his mass appeal remains unmatched in Bollywood. Clearly, the Khan still rules! Text: Sita Menon
