Nearly 1,000 Christian tribals took out a procession on Saturday in Simdega town, Jharkhand, demanding the "release" of Independent legislator from Kolebira, Enos Ekka, from National Democratic Alliance "confinement."

They said he should support the United Progressive Alliance and not the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA.

The demonstrators, mainly women, carried banners and shouted slogans as they went through the main roads.

Local tribal Christian leaders also claimed that Ekka was not allowed to meet the media.

In Ranchi, the UPA too organised a demonstration near the Raj Bhavan.

Ekka is one of the five Independent MLAs paraded by the NDA before Governor Syed Sibtey Razi and President A P J Abdul Kalam.

The UPA is also claiming it has Ekka's support.
