Congress candidate Randeep Singh Surjewala, who defeated Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala from Narwana assembly constituency, on Sunday said that his victory was a slap on Chautala and his style of functioning.

He denied that he was projecting himself as chief ministerial candidate.

"I have been seeing various channels and some of them have projected me either as chief minister or deputy chief minister. Let me clarify that I am not aspiring for any post," he said.

Sonia has to choose: CM aspirants

He criticised former CM Bhajan Lal, who had declared that he wanted the post soon after getting elected from Adampur constituency.

"I am not desperate. Some others may be. I am a disciplined soldier of the party and will do whatever work is assigned to me by the party president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi," he told rediff.com.

He said the people of Haryana had given a fitting reply to Chautala's Indian National Lok Dal.

"During his tenure corruption became the order of the day. It is the victory of the people of Haryana. Victory of Mrs Sonia Gandhi who had visited Narwana to boost my confidence," he said.

Surjewala was expected to reach New Delhi around midnight and meet Gandhi on Monday.
