Yechury said the issue of the Left Front's participation in the new government had not been discussed.

He and Karat said the CPI-M Politburo and central committee will meet on Saturday to discuss the verdict in Election 2004.

The Left Front won the highest number of seats it has won in any Lok Sabha election this time. The CPI-M won 43 seats and the CPI 10. The Revolutionary Socialist Party and the All India Forward Bloc, the other constituents of the Left Front, won three seats each.

Earlier, Surjeet met Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh and former prime minister V P Singh at his home.

He said he told the two leaders that there was need for all the forces that had defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party to get together to "contribute" in the new situation.
