The Samajwadi Party on Tuesday announced that it would field ten candidates in Maharashtra for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
The party's nominee in Mumbai South parliamentary constituency would be Nasir Jamal Shaikh while in South Central Mumbai it would be former DGP T K Choudhary, SP state unit chief and Rajya Sabha MP Abu Asim Azmi told mediapersons in Mumbai.
It would also contest the Mumbai North-east and Mumbai North-west seats.
The party would contest six seats outside Mumbai: Jalgaon, Sangli, Erandol, Parbhani, Thane and Chimur.
Azmi claimed that the Left and Democratic Front, of which the SP is a constituent, would support its nominees on these seats.
In 1999, the SP had fielded candidates in three Lok Sabha constituencies. None of them was elected.
