A Congress candidate from Bhopal along with six others, including two police personnel, was injured in clashes between BJP and Congress activists on Saturday night.

Police said the trouble erupted after heated exchanges between supporters of BJP candidate from Bhopal (South) seat, Umashankar Gupta, and that of P C Sharma in Ambedkar Nagar area past Saturday mid-night. Sharma was injured in the stone throwing that followed.

Fresh violence was reported from the Habibganj when stones were allegedly thrown on Gupta and his supporters during door-to-door campaigning, police said. No one was, however, injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh election commission's office announced that voters would be required to produce photo identity cards or any of the 16 documents notified by the Election Commission to exercise their franchise.

The clarification came in the wake of reports that there was no need for production of any of these documents at the time of voting. Even if only one member of a family showed such a document, authorities will allow others members to vote.
