Militants attack the house of National Conference candidate

Election 2002

Stepping up violence in areas going to polls in the third phase of Jammu and Kashmir election, militants attacked the house of a National Conference candidate and two security forces' pickets injuring three personnel in Anantnag and Pulwama districts on Thursday, official sources said.

Militants attacked the house of Aishya Nishat, the NC candidate from Wachi constituency, at Zainapora in Pulwama district.

No one was injured in the attack as the guards posted at her residence fired in retaliation following which the militants fled.

Two security personnel were injured when militants set off an Improvised Explosive Device at Thamankote in Anantnag district. Militants lobbed a grenade at a Central Reserve Police Force picket at Naibasti in Khanabal area of the district around 1145 IST wounding a soldier.

Polling in the two districts is being held in the third phase on October one.

In Badgma district, militants shot dead one Mohammad Ismail in his house at Kathawara village and injured one woman at Arizal village.
