Naxalites gun down TDP leader

Naxalites of the banned People's War Group shot dead a ruling Telugu Desam Party leader at Thungnur village crossroads in Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh, yesterday.

The police today said two ultras of the Jagtiyal Dalam whisked away V Bhumayya, a local TDP leader, accompanying party candidate Ambala Bhagyavathi, contesting from Buggaram assembly constituency, after an election meeting there, and shot him dead from point-blank range.

Before fleeing, the Naxalites also deflated the tyres of the jeep of Bhagyavathi and threatened her not to campaign in the village. They left a note stating that the killing was in retaliation to Bhumayya's involvement in the murder of their comrade m Pochayya, two years ago.
