Australia captain Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to bat in the third and final one-day international against the World XI at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne on Sunday.

Australia pace bowler Glenn McGrath returned to their side after being rested during the world champions' 55-run victory in the second match.

Opening batsman Simon Katich, who pulled a groin muscle in the second match on Friday, was not considered and team officials said they would monitor his fitness over the next few days to determine whether he could play in next week's Test.

Michael Clarke will move up the order to open with Adam Gilchrist. All rounder James Hopes is the Super sub and can be tactically substituted during the match.

England batsman Kevin Pietersen, who strained his right hamstring while fielding on Friday and was forced to bat with a runner, was not considered.

Pakistan all rounder Shahid Afridi has been brought back into the World XI squad to replace Pietersen, while pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar has been replaced by South Africa's Makhaya Ntini, who is making his first appearance.

Afridi is the Super sub for the World XI.

Australia won the first two matches of the series to open an unassailable 2-0 lead before Sunday's final encounter.

Teams:

Australia: Ricky Ponting (captain), Nathan Bracken, Michael Clarke, Adam Gilchrist, Michael Hussey, Brett Lee, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson, Cameron White, James Hopes (Super sub).

World XI: Shaun Pollock (captain), Rahul Dravid, Andrew Flintoff, Chris Gayle, Jacques Kallis, Brian Lara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Makhaya Ntini, Kumar Sangakkara, Virender Sehwag, Daniel Vettori, Shahid Afridi (Super sub).
