Mohandas Menon

Pakistan v The Netherlands, 10th ODI

  • Scorecard | Match report | Images
  • Jan Kloppenburg & Hendrik-Jan Mol became the 21st and 22nd players to represent Holland in LOIs.

  • The partnership of 28 runs between Reinout Scholte and Roland Lefebvre was the best for Holland for the 8th in LOIs. The pair bettered the previous best partnership of 22 runs between Jacob-Jan Esmeijer and Edgar Schiferli against Sri Lanka at the Premadasa Stadium on 16-9-2002.

  • The stand of 23 runs between Lefebvre and Adeel Raja was Holland's best for the 10th wicket in LOIs.

  • Shahid Afridi just missed the distinction of recording the fastest ever fifty by one ball, when he reached his '50' in 18 balls. The record of reaching 50 in least balls - 17 - still remains with Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya, who during his innings of 76 against Pakistan at Singapore on 7-4-1996 achieved this. Afridi joins Australian Simon O'Donnell (74 against Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 2-5-1990) and himself (102 against Sri Lanka at Nairobi on 4-10-1996) to reach a LOI fifty in 18 balls.

  • By scoring an unbeaten 55 in just 18 balls Afridi registered a strike rate of 305.56 runs (per 100 balls), which is now the best by any batsman in LOI history scoring at least 25 runs in a match. The previous record of 290.91 runs (per 100 balls) was held by Indian Zaheer Khan during his knock of 32 not out in 11 balls against Zimbabwe at Jodhpur on 8-12-2000.

  • Afridi's 3 wickets for 18 runs and his unbeaten 55 runs was the best all-round performance by a player against Holland in LOIs. The previous best was by UAE's Azhar Saeed who made 32 and claimed 2-29 at Lahore on 1-3-1996.

  • This was the third occasion in his career in 164 matches, Afridi was scoring a fifty-plus and taking three-plus wickets in a match. He had achieved this against the West Indies (53 & 3-33 at Sydney on 18-1-1997) and England (61 & 5-40 at Lahore on 27-10-2000).

  • Though Pakistan's victory with 202 balls (or 33.4 overs) to spare was not a record in a fifty over LOI match (its the fourth best), it was however the best effort by any team chasing a target of over 100 runs. Kenya had beaten Bangladesh at Nairobi (at the Aga Khan Ground) on 15-10-1997 with 198 balls (33 overs) to spare while chasing a target of 101 runs.
