  • Scorecard | Match report | Images
  • Shaun Pollock was appearing in his 71st consecutive match since 28-3-2000. Only Hansie Cronje - 162 matches from 4-9-1993 to 27-3-2000 - have played more matches in a row for South Africa.

  • The first wicket partnership of 159 runs between Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs was the highest in this competition since 1998. Indians Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar had put on 141 for the opening wicket against New Zealand on 15-10-2000, which was in the final of the second edition of the ICC championships at Nairobi.

  • The above partnership was also the best for South Africa against Kenya bettering the previous best of 115 runs between Gibbs and Boeta Dippenaar at Kimberley on 14-10-2001.

  • Gibbs' 116 was now the highest by a South African in this competition bettering the 113 (not out) by Jacques Kallis against Sri Lanka at Dhaka on 30-10-1998.

  • Gibbs' hundred was South Africa's first in Sri Lanka in the ten matches. The previous highest was the unbeaten 83 by Kallis against the home team on 11-7-2000 at the SSC ground at Colombo.

  • The unbeaten partnership of 22 runs between Lance Klusener and Justin Ontong was the best for South Africa against Kenya.

  • The three stumpings by David Obuya equals the record for the most stumpings by a keeper in a LOI match. He now shares this record with six other keepers - Australian Ian Healy (twice), Pakistani Moin Khan (twice), Sri Lanka Romesh Kaluwitharana (twice), Pakistani Salim Yousuf, West Indian Ridley Jacobs and Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara. Obuya's feat was the tenth such instance in LOI history.

  • South Africa's total of 316-5 was the highest made in this competition by a team. The previous best was the 307-8 by India against Australia at Dhaka on 28-10-1998.

  • Steve Tikolo's 69 was the highest by a Kenyan batsman against South Africa. He betters his own score of 68 not out which was made at Benoni (South Africa) on 7-10-2001.

  • Ontong's 3-30 (in 10 overs) was his best figures of his career in 13 matches. His previous best was the 2-12 (in 7 overs) against the West Indies at Grenada on 5-5-2001. Incidentally this was the first time in 13 matches, Ontong was bowling his full quota of ten overs.

  • Part time bowler Dale Benkenstein who had delivered just three overs without any claiming any dismissals in his previous 20 matches, claimed 3 wickets for 5 runs in 3.5 overs.

  • South Africa have now won all its seven matches against Kenya.
