Lara has hepatitis, needs two weeks rest

West Indies batsman Brian Lara is suffering from hepatitis and will need two weeks of bed rest plus four weeks of recuperating time, said hospital officials in Colombo on Wednesday.

Lara was admitted to hospital shortly after hitting a century as the West Indies beat Kenya by 29 runs in their Champions Trophy Pool 3 clash on Tuesday.

Team officials said then it was likely Lara was suffering from hepatitis.

West Indies are scheduled to tour India for three Tests and seven ODIs. The tour begins on October 4 and as a result of the diagnosis Lara may miss the first two Tests of the series.
