Sri Lanka vs Holland, 5th ODI

  • Holland (or Netherlands) were appearing in their sixth LOI match. The team last played in the 1996 World Cup - against South Africa at Rawalpindi on 5-3-1996.

  • Only four members of the Dutch team - Roland Lefebvre (capt), Robert van Oosterom, Tim de Leede, Bas Zuiderent - have appeared in official LOI matches.

  • Seven Dutch players - JJ Esmeijer, VD Grandia, Adeel Raja, E Schiferli, RH Scholte, DLS van Bunge & LP van Troost - were making their LOI debuts. Now in all 20 players from Holland have appeared in LOIs.

  • Marvan Atapattu's 101 was the third LOI hundred against Holland. England's Graeme Hick (104 not out at Peshawar, 22-2-1996) and South African Andrew Hudson (161 at Rawalpindi, 5-3-1996) are the others to score an individual hundred against Holland.

  • Roland Lefebvre's two wickets have taken his tally to five in five matches. He equals the tally of five wickets by SW Lubbers - the maximum wickets in LOIs for Holland.

  • The wicket of Tim de Leede was Dilhara Fernando's 50th of his career in 32 matches. He becomes the 16th Sri Lankan bowler to reach this landmark. Fernando is the quickest to reach this landmark in least matches for Sri Lanka. Former left-arm pace bowler Sajeewa de Silva needed 35 matches for his 50th wicket in 1999-00.

  • The five dismissals (4ct+ 1st) by Kumara Sangakkara was the best performance by a keeper in this competition. The previous best were the three dismissals each by four different keepers (Sri Lankan Romesh Kaluwitharana, Pakistani Moin Khan, Indian Vijay Dahiya and Australian Adam Gilchrist).

  • Sangakkara's performance with the gloves equals the best for Sri Lanka. He joins three other Sri Lankan keepers who have the distinction of taking five dismissals in a LOI match. The others being Guy deAlwis (in 1983), Hashan Tillakaeratne (in 1990) & Romesh Kaluwitharana (in 1995)

  • Muttiah Muralitharan's bowling figures of 4-15 was the second best against Holland in LOIs. Former Baroda off-spinner, Shaukat Dukanwala, while playing for UAE in the 1996 World Cup, had claimed 5-29 at Lahore on 1-3-1996 against Holland.

  • Holland's 86 was the lowest in this competition. Both Sri Lanka (in 1998) and New Zealand (in this tournament) had previously made 132 runs each.

  • The win by 206 runs by Sri Lanka was the biggest for any team in terms of runs in the competition. In the previous match Australia had beaten New Zealand by 164 runs.

  • This was Sri Lanka's second largest win in LOIs after the 245 run win over India at Sharjah on 29-10-2000.
