Kumble's Jamboree

India vs England (Day 1)

Marcus Trescothick top-edged an attempted cut at the wicket to give Kumble his fourth wicket.
He became the 12th unlucky Englishman to miss a Test hundred by one run for the 15th time. Mike Smith, Geoff Boycott and Mike Atherton are the only ones to do it twice, while Boycott and Alex Tudor remain the only English batsmen to remain unbeaten on this score.
Incidentally the only other left-handed English batsman to register a 99 was Eddie Paynter against Australia at Lord’s way back in June 1938.
