VVS Laxman to return in 3-4 weeks

Syed Amin Jafri

VVS Laxman has been advised rest and physiotherapy treatment for three to four weeks for his right knee injury. However, he is expected to be fit for action in time for the Indian team's tour to South Africa in October. VVS Laxman

The 27-year-old star batsman had sustained the injury on his right knee while playing in the recent limited overs triangular series in Sri Lanka. He was initially diagnosed by Dr David Yong and attended to by Andrew Leipus, physical trainer of the Indian cricket team.

On his return to the city, Laxman underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of his right knee at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences. The scan report indicated that "he has moderate effusion in the joint (right knee). His ligaments are clinically stable. The MRI shows contusion of the medial femoral condyle and suspicion of mild injury to the medial meniscus. His left knee is normal."

The consultant doctors led by Dr Raghava Dutta, who have been treating him since his return from Sri Lanka, have advised him rest for medication. "He will undergo a second MRI scan in two weeks' time and should be fit for action in three to four weeks' time," the medical report said.
