Wright expected on October 23

Former New Zealand opener John Wright, one of those shortlisted for the job of coach of the Indian cricket team, is expected to meet with officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India in Bombay on October 23.

"Wright is expected to reach Bombay on October 22 to meet us the next day," BCCI sources disclosed on Friday.

The New Zealander is believed to be a front runner for the job, even ahead of former Australia Test opener Geoff Marsh, who has also coached the Australian team.

The board had announced at its last AGM in Madras on September 29 that the new coach will be named before Zimbabwe tours India in November.

Current coach Anshuman Gaekwad, who is with the team for the ongoing ICC Knock-out Cup in Nairobi, will also be in charge of the team for the October 20-29 triangular series in Sharjah.

Apart from Wright and Marsh, Australia's Dean Jones and West Indies's Andy Roberts have indicated their willingness to take up the assignment.
