CBI has degraded our
prestige: BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday charged that the Central Bureau of Investigation has degraded its prestige in the public eye and negated its good work by furnishing erroneous facts and figures.

Expressing "disppointment, surprise and concern" with some of the observations made by the country's premier investigative agency about the functioning of the BCCI, in its 'Report on Cricket Match-Fixing and Related malpractices', the BCCI said, "The uncharitable observations are the least the board deserves. This may prompt many to say 'it's not cricket'."

Giving a point-by-point rebuttal of the observations about its functioning in the CBI report, the BCCI claimed, in a booklet published after its special general meeting in Calcutta, that the incidents of match-fixing and under-performance should not be looked upon as a result of the "Board's shortcomings".

"The members felt that when the report has been furnished by a premier organisation like the CBI, the erroneous facts and figures negated the good work done by the board over the years by a stroke of the pen and degraded its prestige in the public eye," the 55-page booklet 'Observations on the report of the Central Bureau of Investigation on Cricket match-fixing and related malpractices' said.
