Azharuddin had close links with Tiger Memon: M N Singh

Bombay Police Commissioner M N Singh on Thursday night said former India cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin had close links with Tiger Memon, one of the prime suspects in the serial bomb blasts in Bombay in 1993.

"While investigating the 1993 bomb blasts, police, during a raid on Memon's house in Bombay, came across photographs of Azharuddin with Memon and his family members," Singh told on television programme Aaj Tak.

He said that at that point of time police had not felt the need for a follow-up on Azharuddin's links with Memon as the purpose of the investigation was entirely different.

Azharuddin is among the five Indian cricketers named by CBI in its report on betting and match fixing.
