Kapil's statement to be discussed

The working committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India will on Sunday discuss national coach Kapil Dev's reported statement that the BCCI is unprofessional.

BCCI president A C Muthiah told newsmen in Bangalore on Saturday, "We will discuss it in the board here tomorrow. It will naturally come up. Members will raise it."

Kapil Dev had in New Delhi on Friday reportedly criticised the BCCI, saying: "The board should have a spokesman to deal with the media and it should have a specific policy. There should be greater transparency."

He is also reported to have said that the BCCI did not do its job properly, perhaps referring to its role in the match-fixing controversy, adding the board should be professional.

Asked for his reaction to the icon's statements, Muthiah said: "Each one has the liberty to say what he likes in this country. Freedom of speech.

"In what context has he said we are not professionals? Maybe, we are all honorary office-bearers.. that's why he is saying that."

He added: "Is he saying that we have not taken action based on professional advice. Let us hear what he has to say.

"Is he making a general statement or is it a complaint. We do not know."
