Centre extends financial support to computerising APThe central government has agreed to provide 90 per cent of the expenditure incurred on development of software and 10 per cent on hardware by the Andhra Pradesh government in computerising the administration, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said today.After the state government signed an agreement with Oracle India for setting up an advanced school of software technology at the Indian Institute of Information Technology at Hyderabad, he told reporters that the central government has designated the state as the nodal agency for all state
The central government's assistance will be available for the next two years, he added. He said the government has already started using Oracle database management package to improve its performance in several areas like commercial taxes and rural development. Under the agreement, Oracle India would set up The Oracle School of Advanced Software Technology at the IIIT, coming up at Gachibowli here. The proposed school would offer both short and long-term courses to 650 students. The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh Technology Services, formalising a strategic alliance. Under the MoU, Oracle India will participate in projects in development of information in the state and provide its infrastructure and technical support to government departments, public sector undertakings and autonomous bodies. The agreement and the MoU were signed in the presence of Naidu, by Oracle India Chairman and Managing Director Anil Kaul with R Chandrashekhar, secretary, Department of Information Technology and Dr Prashant Mahapatra, managing director of APTS. Oracle is the third global software company to enter into such an agreement with the government. Earlier, IBM and Microsoft signed similar agreements to set up schools in their respective areas of core competence. Naidu said negotiations are underway with Oracle to launch a 'pilot project' here, to connect the schools through a computer network to enhance education delivery. |
