D-Link to sell Cisco products

Cisco Systems Inc, the world's largest supplier of Internetworking products, today announced the appointment of D-Link (India) Private Limited, the largest LAN manufacturer in the Asia Pacific region, as distributor for Cisco products in India.

This partnership will address the networking and Internetworking needs of small and medium businesses and will provide one source for all stocks, specially to system integrators. This, it is hoped will give the partnership the largest market share in networking.

Cisco's Anil Batra, country manager, India SAARC region, said "The fusion of our internationally acclaimed Internetworking products, related software, technical training and design competency, coupled with D-Link's country-wide presence, prompt support and commitment to quality will ensure total satisfaction and success of our customers."

Commenting on the tieup, K R Naik, managing director, D-Link, India, said "We are confident of our ability to market and support Cisco products in India through our distribution channels and in the process significantly enhancing the networking scene in the country."

About 80 per cent of the routers on the Internet, globally, come from Cisco. It also uses the Internet to conduct a substantial amount of business. It provides over 70 per cent of its customer support over the Web. Cisco Systems has grown into a multinational corporation with over $4 billion in annual revenues.

D-Link has about 200 products and is a leader in the manufacture of hubs, adapters and workgroup switches. It has now entered into collaboration with a Taiwan company which has a 40 per cent share in the business. They are providing the latest state of the art technology for the manufacture of 50,000 cards and 10,000 hubs of various types per month at their plant in Goa.
