Power Mac G3 reaches Indian shoresApple Computer International Private Limited, India, has launched the Power Macintosh G3 computer line in the country. The new range features the copper-based PowerPC processors running up to 400 MHz.The G3 Power Macs include industry standard 10/100 base-T Ethernet, USB and 400 MBPS FireWire on the motherboard.
The Power Mac line includes machines running at 300 MHz, 350 MHz and 400 MHz, with support for up to 1 GB DRAM. The ATI Rage 128 graphics processor backed by 16 MB video RAM, supports QuickDraw, 3D RAVE and Open GL, offering enhanced performance on the latest games, graphics and video editing software. Available immediately through Apple distributors and their reseller channels, the Power Macs come in four different configurations. They start at Rs 110,000 for a 300 MHz low-end version and go up to Rs 213,000 for a 400 MHz high-end version, featuring 1 MB L2 cache and 9 GB Ultra 2 SCSI 7,200 rpm disk drive. Simultaneously, Apple India has launched three new versions of Apple Studio Displays. The 21" Studio Display, featuring ColourSync and lifetime colour calibration, is priced at Rs 98,000. The 17'' Studio Display comes at Rs 32,000 while the 15.1" LCD screen with an active matrix and great form factor is priced at Rs 73,000. Continuing its innovative trend, Apple also introduced four new colours of iMacs - strawberry, lime, blueberry and tangerine - to complement the grape-coloured iMacs that hit Indian markets about two months ago. These colours will be available on the new iMacs featuring a faster G3 processor (266 MHz versus the older 233 MHz). The new iMacs will be available immediately through Apple resellers at a price of Rs 78,000. Apple has slashed the price of the older versions to Rs 67,000.
