"I am pleased that HP has taken the lead in bringing to the local market fully configured PCs specifically priced for the Indian home PC market," HP India Vice-President (Computer Products) Ravi Agarwal has said.

He claims that Hewlett-Packard will continue to aggressively price its range of PC offerings for the domestic market.

The announcement signifies the company's continued commitment to its strategy of lowering the entry price for fully configured multinational brand PCs across the market segments of home, small and medium enterprises and the corporation.

The new Hewlett-Packard Pavilion Home PCs include four models starting from Rs 49,999 onwards.

All Pavilion Home PCs come with multimedia keyboard, a 15" monitor, a modem card, Microsoft Windows 98 and some educational and entertainment software.

HP has also tied up with Countrywide Finance to offer attractive instalment schemes for the purchase of the HP Pavilion Home PC.

Currently, the new products are available in New Delhi only and will be available in other metros by April.

Last week, new company president HP India, B Ganesh Ayyar, speaking on his plans for the country, had said that the home PC market held a great potential for the company.

"We would be targeting the growing middle income group and introducing some low-end products," he had said.

According to Ayyar, there was also potential for HP India in the Internet related services market, as the area has been opened to private players.

Providing end-to-end solutions in e-commerce is also in the pipeline, he revealed.

The Hewlett-Packard Company has a worldwide turnover of $47.1 billion and the Asia-Pacific business accounts for about 14 per cent of this.

HP, which manufactures printers among other products, enjoys a 65-70 per cent share in the inkjet printer market in India and is looking to expand over the next three years.
