Autodesk announces AutoCAD upgrade programme

Services such as UMP are part of the company's plan to upgrade facilities in India.

Autodesk has upgraded its liaison office here to a 100 per cent subsidiary status and will invest close to $25 million in the next three years to educate employees, build skill sets and develop intellectual property.

The UMP will permit easy uprgades and updates for AutoCAD. Existing users of AutoCAD R14 will be given options to subscribe to UMP-2000 and UMP-2001.

Under these programs, major product upgrades will be made available free of cost and without having to place an order.

"The UMP will help users plan their budget better without going into upgrade budgeting and ordering cycles,'' said S Sridhar, managing director, Autodesk Inc, India.

Autodesk India Limited, the new subsidiary, will form three divisions, sales and marketing, developer consulting group and software development projects division.

"Sales and marketing will support our indirect selling models,'' Tom Norring, vice-president, Autodesk, Asia-Pacific, told reporters.

Autodesk will work with its distributors and dealers through training programmes and offer product updates and upgrades along with support services.

The developer consulting division has over 3,000 third party registered members.

This division will provide advanced support on Autodesk products and 'application programming interfaces' to developers through email and the Internet.

Norring said that Autodesk plans to form a worldwide developer support group in India. He said the Indian support group would provide real-time, online support to developers and customers worldwide.

The software development projects division would co-ordinate with Indian software companies for software development projects. There will be more direct interaction with software developers.

Autodesk is already working with NeilSoft and Hindustan Office Products in this area.

Norring said that Autodesk is addressing different vertical markets. Solution providers were selling software differently and the new structure would support customers and developers better.
