Hughes Ispat granted basic telephony licenceHughes Ispat Limited has been awarded a license by the government to build and operate a basic telephone system in the Maharashtra telecom circle that comprises Maharashtra, including Bombay, and Goa.The license allows HIL to operate basic telecom services along with the incumbent operators, the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited in Bombay
Hughes Electronics Corporation, USA; Alltel Corporation, USA; and the Ispat Group from India have promoted Hughes Ispat Limited. Hughes Electronics Corporation is a multi-billion-dollar conglomerate that is internationally reputed in the telecommunications field and is a subsidiary of General Motors. Alltel is also a multi-billion-dollar organisation that specialises in information technology and customer servicing in the telecommunications sector. The Ispat Group in India is amongst the top 10 industrial houses in the country with wide ranging interests in the steel industry. HIL is currently in the process of deploying a state-of-the-art communications network in Maharashtra to provide its customers with tailor-made telecommunications solutions backed by world-class service, offering connectivity on par with the developed world. This mega project envisages an investment of Rs 84 billion in the next five years, making this one of the biggest projects in the telecom sector in the country. UNI |
