UMB Marketing and Services Private Limited, an Usha Martin Group company, is set to firm up bulk purchase contracts with leading international telecom vendors like Motorola, Ericsson and Siemens to become a key cell phone distributor in the eastern region.

The eastern India market for mobile handsets is slated to generate at least Rs 1 billion of business over the next two years, said officials at UMB Marketing and Services.

The present move is also part of the Usha Martin Group company's diversification drive into the telecom value-added service segments from its primary role in the financial services sector.

UMB Marketing and Services already has an exclusive agreement with Nokia of Finland for distributing and servicing its handsets and accessories.

It has also entered an agreement with Philips to retail its mobile handsets.

At present, the company offers a spectrum of support services to group company Usha Martin Telekom Limited, right from facilitating 'Command' cellular connections and distributing 'YES' prepaid cards.
