All telecom employees in Haryana, Assam, the northeastern states, West Bengal, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar and Madras observed the token strike, the unions said.

Most of the telecom employees in Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar and Orissa also participated in the strike.

The All-India Telecom Employees Union Class III, All-India Telegraph Traffic Employees Union Class III, All-India Telecom Administrative Employees Union, Indian Telecom Employees Union Line Staff and All-India Telecom Civil Wing Employees Union are protesting against the proposed corporatisation of the Department of Telecommunications.
