Telecom tariff rework soon, says TRAI

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India will soon submit its final recommendations for the new telecom pricing structure in the country.

Having received written comments about the consultation paper on the framework and proposals in respect of telecom pricing, the TRAI is now in the process of finalising determination and re-balancing of telecom tariffs.

The consultation paper was released on September 9 and the comments were received from service providers and their organisations, individuals, consumers, institutions and non-governmental organisations.

The finalisation of tariffs, the effective dates for implementation of various proposals, phasing of the various revised tariffs and finalisation of the cost basis is to be taken up through a process of open-house discussions, according to a TRAI spokesperson.

The TRAI would start interacting with the parties concerned from tomorrow, he added.
