LG to set up global software headquarters in BangaloreAfter its decision to upgrade the software development centre in Bangalore to a subsidiary status, the South Korea based LG Group has decided to have its global non-Korean software businesses headquarters in Bangalore.The LG Group has drawn up detailed plans for its software business in India and abroad. It has decided to make Bangalore the headquarters for all its global information technology business from outside Korea, Lalit Ahuja,
He said this will include operations in the US and Western Europe - its development centre in US becomes operational this year. The Western European centre will come up in Poland. Besides, the LG Group will have four development centres in India. "By the 2005 we would have 5,500 software professionals across the globe. In addition we would contract some 3,000 professionals from Indian companies for our low-end jobs," Ahuja said. LG's software development centres will focus on high-end services. The company has completed substantial work for the Pico Java processor. "We have identified 30 odd Java applications in the consumer electronics industry," Ahuja said. The company has developed software for network computers, mobile phones and television. In India, LG has mandated that it will become the biggest and best software services company by 2003. Its vision statement for India reads: "To become the number one software and professional services company in India by the 2003 in terms of revenues, profitability, quality of services, productivity, customer satisfaction, employee admiration, industry leadership, employee compensation and admiration by our competition."
