L C Singh quits TCS to join RPGTCS Senior Vice-President L C Singh has resigned to join the RPG Group where he would be chief executive of one of their businesses.Singh is widely reputed to have pioneered off-the-shelf software products in India. Confirming his departure, TCS CEO S Ramdorai is reported to have said "L C Singh has played an important role in our move into software
Singh has spent 17 years at TCS and is credited with bringing about a move towards the development of software products and introducing the concept of a shrink-wrapped software product in the Indian market. TCS has been a software services company and a serious entry into the software products area began at the beginning of this decade under Singh's initiatives. Since then, the share of software products has grown to about 7-8 per cent in TCS' turnover of Rs 10.83 billion recorded for the year ended March 1998. During his tenure with TCS, Singh developed the European market. This region accounts for about 40 per cent of the Rs 9.5-billion exports from TCS. He also established TCS' presence in South Africa three years ago and this has emerged as its fastest growing market. The effort to develop software products that match world standards is highly regarded in the Indian industry as the share of Indian software products in the total turnover is negligible. Globally, software companies with the highest market value, profitability and productivity are product companies. - Compiled from the Indian media |
