Questions Dilip D'Souza did not answer

Aparna Tara (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:25 IST)
Is Dilip logged. I liked his column on Rediff regarding Sanjay Ghosh and the 50 years of Independence.

nehru (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:30 IST)
happy independence day all

bal (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:42 IST)
Hello Dilip, I read your columns at rediff regularly. What are you views on the recent increase in the underworld activities in Bombay. Do you think Bombay police should start again cleaning them through encounters.

Exindian (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:46 IST)
Is there any future for Seshan? Supposedly a upright Man?

Aparna Tara (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:46 IST)
Dilip, you've been a close observer of different facets of Indian politics, do you think there ever will be a time when poverty and illiteracy will be drastically reduced.

Parag Mehta (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:47 IST)
I think India only need good politician who remove curreption. In my opnion it takes loger time to come out from curreption. What you think?

Prasanna (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:48 IST)
OK,Mr.D'souza.I won't shout now that I've got your attention. But what if the law enforcing machinery of the same State uses its might in the name of the same law???

Aparna Tara (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:49 IST)
Who are the good politicians who have been sidelined?

harshavardhan reddy (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:51 IST)
dilip ji>> in present day politices the politicians are concentrating more in filling there bags with votes and public money, for that they can do everything . can't we curb those activities.

Mr Sanjeev (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:52 IST)
Dilip> You blame the politicians/ruling party for all things wrong. Don't you think that all of us, citizens of India, carry that blame : For bieng indifferent to the ills, for bieng too indulged in bread/butter. How many Sanjoy Ghose's do we find in the 950 million people. Hardly any.

bal (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:52 IST)

LionelR (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:54 IST)
Dilip-India is loaded with 950 million people,do U think its fair to be also loaded with the MOST CORRUPT leadership in the world.

LionelR (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:56 IST)
In addition to having the WEAKEST PRIME MINISTER in the world.

Exindian (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:57 IST)
When politicians like Laloo ScumBag are still around there no hope for India!

Aparna Tara (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:58 IST)
Dilip, sometime back Pritish Nandy was a chat guest. He held forth that IK Gujral was one of the finest prime ministers India has ever had. I disagree, not completely but partially. I don't think IK will last another few months, his primary desire to unfurl the flag on the 50th anniversary has been fulfilled. I don't think there's anything else he'll be remembered for. Don't you think Mr Nandy exaggerrated Gujral's worth?

panacea (Fri Aug 15 1997 9:58 IST)
nehru (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:2 IST)
I dont think the view that "some good politicians have been sidelined " holds good because one of the qualitites of a good politician is to make sure he does not get marginalised. Look at me for exAMPLE.

sandy (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:3 IST)
Now when there is atleast a positive sign with courts playing bigger roles like bihar hc did politicians have started crying foul...

LionelR (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:5 IST)
Dilip-Lets not forget that we are the only country whose leadership levels are falling drastically-From Jawaharlal,Sardar etc in 1947 to kesri/lalloo/rabri/phoolan/mulayam/mayawati in 1997.THIS IS A REAL SHAME.

nehru (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:8 IST)
SImon Jacob if you graduated from the IIt of IIm or similar you cost my country $100,000 or thereabouts get back here and pay your dues.

Mr Sanjeev (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:10 IST)
Mr Dilip, Now that we have the current crop of politicians, in form of Laloos/Mayawatis. Whats the way out.

devadas (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:12 IST)
Hi, Independence day greetings to everyone; I feel that our younger generation are more intelligent and bold.

jagu (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:14 IST)
Mr Dilip, why is that Indians lack patriotism when most developed coutries are strongly infused with it??

panacea (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:14 IST)
How can we do something about the state of our city? Corrupt officials and municipal workers.. imaginary social workers who work for the society of 'self'...Schoolkids who are conned into taking tuitions ... the list is long,I wish I had a cure for them all.. but alas, don/t know how & where to begin ..any suggestions?

baba (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:14 IST)
Nehru, if someone has gone abroad after iit, iim then he will be returning more than 100,000 to INdia in one way or the other. As far as brain drain is concerned, India has enough brains rotting in the stock.

Mr Sanjeev (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:15 IST)
What do you think keeps these oldies around - Mr. Gujral, Mr. Kesri, Mr. Rao, Mr. Advani. My do you think they still meddle in destructive politics ?

Mr Sanjeev (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:20 IST)
Panacea question> How do you deal with corruption in your daily life?

Dilip D`souza (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:20 IST)
Mr Sanjeev: Why do the oldies meddle in politics? But what would you have them do, this is their chosen profession, poor guys!

jagu (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:20 IST)
Mr Dilip, thanx for the reply. But, my question was that do you not feel that Hindus will become reactionary?? When the world cup was going on, I was in Bangalore. When India defeated Pak in the quaters, there was absolute silence (almost like a tomb) from the Muslim localities. When India lost in the semi's these very people started bursting crackers. If you feel that these people are supporting Pak because they are a better team(as implied by your egs about supporting Mcenroe) then you are sadly mistaken. They are supporting Pak because Pak is a muslim team. Infact, they are supporting Pak because they probably hate India. Otherwise why do they support the opposing team always. Is it because India is the worst team around and many Muslims like to support only the good teams. I would like to apologise for generally categorising Muslims in that light. All Muslims in India are not like that. Only majority are like that.

nehru (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:21 IST)
Dear baba the money may or may not come back and if our best and brightest l;eave we do not have enough brains rotting in stock but enough rotting brains in stock.

Mr Sanjeev (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:21 IST)
Mr. Dilip How do you deal with corruption / misconduct in your daily life.

LionelR (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:22 IST)
Sanjeev-Hi,I feel we R the fools responisble for keeping these kesris/raos/advanis around. Its we who elect them.Isnt it?

Baba-I too live abroad and not in a democratic State, with 350000 other Indians.& mind U we have performed well out here & we all behave ourselves, which in turn has kept us all Happy. Can we say the same about India?NEVER.

LionelR (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:29 IST)
Dilip-But Democracy need not be what the AMERICANS define it as.It can be how LKY or Mahatir have defined it too,for the excellent performance of their countries. Can we say the same of India.A country with such great talent that is being slowly destroyed or supressed. & above all does democracy mean misuse of power, like what lalloo did with rabri or what the UF is doing at the moment in Delhi.

jagu (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:30 IST)
A recent

baba (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:33 IST)
Dilip, you are right, I really did some wrong things to get out of customs because I knew I could. I did not do this over here, because I knew I cannot. Why can't hard rules/regulations be implemented in India, so that we always know we cannot make our way through money. An example - if you hire somebody, it is your responsibility to see that he works for you. That is exactly why time sheets-weekly status meetings etc. are for. It is the government or the adminstration's duty to see that people cannot get away after doing something wrong. If you think that people in foreign countries are disciplined because of their nature, it is bullshit. People here are disciplined because of the fear of law & adminstration.

jagu (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:33 IST)
All political parties in India today seems to be either corrupt, castist or communal. In this scenario, which party should Indians choose? Which is the lesser evil amongst the three?

LionelR (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:33 IST)
Dilip-on your reply to Baba.Dont speak like an Indian who has given up and accepts corruption as a way of life.I have never offered a bribe to a customs official nor have paid anything under the table to let go of my excess baggage. If I can do it why not U.Please do not give up so easily & allow these corrupted officials a free hand.

nehru (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:34 IST)

Bye Dilip-Can U send me your email address to enable us to keep in touch on issues that matter.Mine is:virvish@rocketmail.com OR khwaish@hotmail.com & enjoy your sleep, not for the next 50 years, but till tomorrow morning-Its high time we guys stayed awake.

ven (Fri Aug 15 1997 10:38 IST)
Dilip: I agree, parties can call themselves whatever they want to: comminal, secular etc. But what gets me is why Columnists and newsmedia refer to some parties as communal and others as secular. One more question: Why is it that we hear so little about the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits who have been driven out? What are the so called secularists doing about this? ( note: I am from Madras but regard myself as an Indian first)

partap singh (Fri Aug 15 1997 11:59 IST)
welcome sir' I am 76 now. Did take part in independece movement. My father was a freedom fighter too being member of Ghadar Party. Spent his entire life in this field. For what? Raive Gandhi and his henchmen could plunder my country ? I had to leave my country to earn a living. Sonia Gandhi is occupying the official residence. Why ? The so called Congress Party is not the party that contributed in the independence struggle. This is the Indra Congress that came into existence after Indra Gandhi destroyed the Indian National Congress of Jawahar Lall Nehru , Patel, Gandhi and so many other National leaders. The present bunch is a group of corrupt plunderers. Sooner we get rid of them , the better. Ask Mr. Gujral to resign and have new verdict immediately. It does not matter who wins. Thank you.
