The biggest losers were Videocon, Akai and to some extent Philips. The biggest gainers were Aiwa, LG and Samsung. The gainers will carry momentum into the current year which could help them gain volumes even if the market declines. BPL has more or less held on to its share at a very high level and carries a tremendous clout, multi-dimensionally. If they are as aggressive this year, they could increase their volumes to some extent. Videocon was in hibernation in 1999-2000. The current volumes are too low for the intrinsic clout that the brand commands. If they wake up and start acting, then they can increase their volumes from a low base. But that will hinder BPL and Onida tremendously. Back << |
