Indo-Japan panel meet to forge IT alliancesThe joint meeting of the Indo-Japan Standing Committee to be held in Japan in a week's time will lay considerable importance on information technology industry in order to forge major breakthroughs in tie-ups. A delegation jointly sponsored by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, or FICCI, and the Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, or ASSOCHAM, will make presentations on the capabilities of Indian IT sector, cyber laws and India's potentialities in software and technologies at the meeting. The meeting assumes importance against the backdrop of recent initiatives taken by Japan for granting visas to over 10,000 software engineers from India to work in Japan. This is the first time Japan is contemplating such a step and is reflective of the enormous potential that exists in such tie-ups and synergy. The high-powered delegation sponsored by FICCI and ASSOCHAM will impress upon the Japanese counterparts about the increased sourcing of software and other internet enabled services from India by countries like Germany and the US. It would also make presentations to them as to how the joint ventures and technical tie ups have been evolved between the American and Indian companies. Although there is a recognition in Japan of India's strength in the IT sector, the exports are currently less than $ 100 million, which is less than one per cent of Japan's software market. A study reveals that the Japan's software requirement would jack up to $ 1.3 trillion in the coming decade. Japan's new initiative to invite Indian software experts would help India achieve higher market share in the increasing software market of Japan and get diversified into other Internet-enabling services and knowledge-based industries.
