Email this report to a friend

The central government has cleared all hurdles with regard to setting up of an international airport at Devanahalli, 40 km from Bangalore, Civil Aviation Minister Sharad Yadav announced today.

He said the existing HAL airport would be accorded international status until the construction of the new airport is completed. With this, the long felt need of the Karnataka people had been met as Bangalore is considered one of the important centres, he observed.

He said, the Centre had also asked the taskforce committee to explore possibilities of upgrading existing airports at Guwahati, Goa, Kochi, Amritsar, Srinagar and Hyderabad to meet international specifications.

The letter of approval would be despatched to the Karnataka government in a few days.

He declined to give further details with regard to joint venture partner for the Devanahalli project and said work would commence soon.
