Equities slide on low sentiment; Nifty down over seven points, 899.70
A low sentiment prevailed in the market today and prices of pivotals witnessed a gradual decline at the National Stock Exchange today. The total turnover was Rs 11.23 billion from 49.6 million shares. 34 securities hit their price bands. S&P CNX Nifty ended at 899.70, falling by 7.70 points. It opened at 907.40 and witnessed a high and low of 907.10 and 893.30 respectively. CNX Nifty Junior closed at 1463.40, losing 24.35 points. S&P CNX Defty ended at 733.50, showing a net loss of 6.80 points. S&P CNX 500 and CNX Midcap 200 lost 6.49 and 7.82 to close at 604.91 and 516.63 points respectively. ITC recorded the highest turnover of Rs 1.87 billion followed by Satyam Computers (Rs 1.34 billion), Reliance (Rs 992.3 million), Pentafour Software (Rs 766.3 million) and SBI (Rs 701.7 million). The top five gainers were HPCL, Tata Tea, BHEL, Glaxo and MTNL while M&M, Indogulf, Ashok Leyland, G E Shipping and Indian Rayon were the top five in the list of scrips that shed value.
